There are so many stunning wedding venues in France. Seriously, there are hundreds of them. Beautiful places from the Riviera to the French wine country to Paris, and everywhere in between. And you truly can’t go wrong at any of them. But if your vibe is French countryside — and particularly the French wine country — then Château de la Valouze might just be the perfect venue for your destination wedding.

One look at the towering, storybook-esque château and you’ll see what we mean. You’ll also understand why Cyd and Mike, the incredible couple whose wedding we were so lucky to plan at this stunning venue, turned their wedding day into a three-day event for friends and family. This is the kind of place that you milk for as many days as you can. It’s that once-in-a-lifetime kind of venue that you catch yourself looking around and wondering how you were so lucky to see it in real life with your own two eyes.
So if you’re considering a destination wedding, and thinking Château de la Valouze might be the one for you, let us tell you a bit more about this beautiful château through the lens of Cyd and Mike’s unforgettable nuptials.
Located near Bordeaux in La Roche-Chalais, France, Château de la Valouze sits on 34 hectares of park land. On that land are two lakes, a bamboo forest, and trees that are as old as 400 years! And with trees that old and majestic on the property, you know the château itself must have some pretty incredible history. It was built in 1861 for a French noble named Baron Gustave Arlot de Saint-Saud. The château, with its neoclassical-style building design, is historically significant for its association with the Durand-Ruel family, which are noted 19th-century art dealers who supported Impressionist painters like Monet and Renoir.
A stunning wedding video in French wine country with ties to Monet and Renoir? Say no more. We’re all the way in. But even going behind its stately beauty and impressive 19th-century history, Château de la Valouze offers some practical benefits for couples interested in planning a destination wedding in Bordeaux.

But beyond its stately beauty and impressive 19th-century history, Château de la Valouze also offers practical benefits for couples planning a destination wedding in Bordeaux.
For starters, the château comfortably sleeps 96 guests. That means anyone and everyone who made the trip to celebrate your big day can stay on the property with you.
No going separate ways at the end of the night. You can continue the celebration as long as possible, with everyone you love all in one place.
Another major benefit of a venue this large is convenience. Your friends and family won’t need to worry about transportation or finding their own lodging.

With a regional airport nearby, even the trip from the airport to the venue is easy. Your guests can be relaxing by the Château de la Valouze pool or playing tennis on one of the private courts within an hour or two of arriving in France.
Don’t underestimate the benefit of having an entire venue like this to yourself.
Private use of Château de la Valouze means full access to the gardens, pool, tennis court, reception room, underground jazz bar, and everything else across the surrounding 34-hectare estate.
That level of privacy, space, and inclusive amenities is incredibly hard to beat for a destination wedding.
Cyd and Mike’s wedding certainly proved why Château de la Valouze has become such a sought-after venue for destination weddings in France.

The ceremony took place outdoors with the grand château as the couple’s eye-popping backdrop. It’s hard to imagine a wedding that feels more quintessentially French than this one. Truly a picture-perfect ceremony.
The guests sat in wooden chairs arranged on the gravel courtyard, with the property’s perfectly manicured grounds behind them. A simple white umbrella for shade and floral arrangements flanking the ceremony space were really all the décor needed when the venue is this breathtaking.
After the ceremony and photos, the party made its way inside the château, where the interior design and centuries-old architecture truly speak for themselves.
That ornate wooden staircase with carved details and the statue at the landing made the perfect backdrop for first-look photos. The setting’s understated elegance provided just enough visual intrigue and beauty without taking away from the moment itself.
And don’t even get us started on the sky-high ceilings, original moldings, and antique furnishings. Absolutely no replicas or recreations here. Everything is made up of genuine historical elements that give the space its authentic French château character.
The reception took place on the large terrace just outside the front hall. Pergolas and suspended fairy lights hung above the round tables dressed in floor-length white linens.
The tables were finished with vintage china in soft blues and florals, along with simple white floral centerpieces in clear glass vases. Elegant without being fussy.
The evening light filtering through the trees, string lights overhead, and the château visible in the background all combined to create an atmosphere that felt romantic and intimate.
The design aesthetic throughout stayed consistent: classic, romantic, and refined without trying to compete with or overshadow the venue itself.
When you’re working with a property this beautiful and historically significant, the smartest design choice is restraint. Cyd and Mike understood that. They let the château’s architecture and grounds do the heavy lifting while adding just enough personal touches and thoughtful details to make it feel authentic to who they are.
They wanted it to feel like their celebration rather than a generic event, and that’s exactly what they got.

Château de la Valouze offers everything destination wedding couples need: a stunning historic setting, accommodation for nearly 100 guests, multiple event spaces for different parts of your celebration, and the privacy of an exclusive estate in the French countryside. But coordinating a multi-day celebration at a property this size, especially when you’re planning from another country, requires expertise and local knowledge.
