French weddings are spectacular and chic, but, what do you do if it rains on your wedding day? And, whether you’re getting married in rain or shine, the show must go on! Most of our couples at Pétillante Weddings want to get married outdoors. For example, outside of a chateau is a lovely choice!
At Pétillante Weddings, we fully understand the importance of your wedding day and for that reason, we, as a rule, draft a “plan b” just for these occasions! Throughout time, our various “just in case” rain plans have saved the day many times. And when you plan, and all of the necessary arrangements are made, the plan b “rain ceremony” or “rain reception” will look and feel just as spectacular as what was planned for outside!! A perfect example is Jordan + Darian’s (beautiful) rainy wedding ceremony at Château de Pitray! It rained and it was absolutely beautiful, too!!
Jordan + Darian are a beautiful couple. They met in the United States, in Florida. They almost had to cancel their ENTIRE wedding due to hurricanes back at home in Florida! Thankfully, the bride and groom, and their guests, were still able to travel to France and have a spectacular time celebrating!
As you can see, their photos came out spectacularly, regardless of the weather.
You want to consider having an option for your ceremony + reception that offers coverage! The best example is, going with something like an awning or a tasteful white tent. This is a great way to keep the specific festivity outdoors while also providing your guests with the coverage they’ll need to stay dry in case of rain or in the opposite case, stay in the shade for a hot sunny day!
Okay, we all understand that it’s good to know what to expect, especially for a day as big as your wedding, but there are two important things to consider:
Therefore, if we cannot change the weather, the forecasts are only a projection and are not a promise.
There is no sense in stressing yourself out over this. We cannot say this enough! You already have enough on your plate preparing for your French Wedding, the last thing you need is to worry about something that you can’t change and that is also (possibly) inaccurate! Let us at Pétillante Weddings handle it for you! We use multiple apps to make the most accurate projections and we know the area like the weather patterns of the region like the back of our hands!
When you don’t know what to do if it rains on your wedding day, umbrellas are one of the best options! When you find the right color umbrella, it can add a tremendously tasteful and beautiful touch to your wedding photos, too. Plus, there’s really nothing worse than allowing your guests to get soaked in the rain, so their comfort should be a top priority in our opinions.
Kayla and Kevin used gorgeous cream-colored umbrellas at their wedding to keep their guests dry. These umbrellas complemented Chateau Pape Clement and the guests wonderfully! And most importantly, everyone was dry! Haha!
If you don’t want to go with a colored umbrella – you might want to consider going with a clear one. Clear goes with any outfit your guests are wearing and looks charming in photos. They’re tasteful, go with any outfit, and make for a great additional accessory in rainy wedding day photos!
That is what we are here for! When you don’t know what to do if it rains on your wedding day – just leave all the stress and worry to us. You’re supposed to enjoy your wedding day, not be stressed during it. It is a celebration after all!
And, don’t be afraid to ask your wedding planning team to show you what kind of spaces your venue has in case of rain, so you know what to expect in case you cannot get married outside as you plan. Knowing what to expect will remove any anxiety or uncertainty and calm any unnecessary nerves. Let us be the ones to check the weather and help to figure out backup plans.
Utilize your wedding website by providing your guests with real-time updates when necessary! Guests love it when the right expectations are set. Consider making a weather update on your website and spreading the word to your bridal party and guests!
Or, if it’s a rainy time of year, you can add a note to your invitation to keep the guests apprised: “Please be prepared for the possibility of rain! We’ll be celebrating both indoors and outdoors, so feel free to bring a light jacket or umbrella just in case.”
As in life, there are some things that will happen that we just can’t change. Navigating the bumps in the road on your wedding day, like rain, is so much easier to handle when you have a trusted wedding planner by your side!!
